...taking the bait.

I'd only been to the sackler/freer museum in the past to use their restrooms. it's one of the least populated attractions on The Mall, and the quietude of its halls can be a nice break from the chaos of its surrounding neighbors--especially on a hot summer day. So what drew me in to its galleries, which i admire and appreciate, but find no interest in the works displayed?

Easy. After viewing and being a little let down by the Hirshhorn's Ana Miendeta survey, we stumbled upon Cai Guo-Qiang's gun powder drawings. Oversized, blank papers marked with gunpowder impressions, his 'impressions' are sketches of sorts of the large-scale explosions he envisions.

Coupled with this exhibit in the nearby Sackler/freer is his "Travler" a resurrected Japanese fishing boat engulfed and surrounded in shattered Chinese porcelein. Impressive i size and disorder. Remains striking and mysterious, without being to obscure ( the clashing of japanese and chinese worlds isn't completely lost on me.).
After this we did what any sensible couple would do, which is shop, and spent too much money. We are simply folk, and easily entertained. The trip to the museum was a nice treat since we hadn't done so in a while.
